Profile of the Department of Malayalam
Department of Malayalam is one of the earliest departments in Govt.college, Madappally , started functioning with the very opening of the college, in June 1959.Over the five decades of fabulous performance it witnessed the pageant of generations descended to the society.

Assessing the Students / Remedial Teaching
There is a method of assessing the students’ academic standing in order to provide enrichment through oral and written tests, assignments, debates, seminars and quiz competition and so forth.
Departdepartment library
Department of Malayalam is having a department library in which 5708 books are kept, and open accessible to students throughout the academic hours.. A reference section is also working along with the library. P.Praseetha performs the duty relating to the library. Library records are maintained properly.

A periodical section is also running with the library. Almost all important periodicals in Malayalam is subscribed in the library. A separate record is kept in this regard.
Community Library
A community Library is functioning under the auspicious of the department. It is an innovative one in its character and functioning as the distribution of the books is done by the students themselves .A committee of students coordinators is formed for this purpus.Community library is maintained by the students themselves and the representatives from the students community act as the librarians in their leisure time .Community library is meant not only for the campus community but also for oldaged people and patients in the nearby villages.dears for every students. Students take books to the other departments, office of the college and always outside the campus where an indeed reader waits for the book .K.Veerankutty , Head of the Department gives proper direction in this regard . A separate record is kept in this regard.
Class room Library
Another significant system maintained in the department is class room library, by which the students can utilize their leisure time meaningfully, if a teacher is on leave in a particular period. In this system, student coordinators are encouraged to come to the department and take some articles/study materials/magazines to their classroom for the reading purpose. This library system is also absolutely maintained by the students. A separate record is kept in this regard.
First academic Community Blog in Malayalam
The first academic Malayalam blog created and maintained by any colleges in Kerala is from the Department of Malayalam. ’madappallycampus’, the blog, contains the discussions on important issues ,essays on relevant academic concerns , study materials for the students and , of course, the literary endeavors of both teachers and students of the campus .it is widely appreciated by the public and media for the cyber space utilized in making of the future of a generation . Space in e-world
Department of Malayalam is having a separate e-mail id, madappallycampus@gmail.com. All the three teachers are the contributors in various cyber space and the members of community groups like face book , orkut and twitter .Students are encouraged to enter the cyber space for the detailed narration of a particular issue , whenever it is possible
Department of Malayalam is equipped with the high speed broadband internet facility accordingly up to date information is ready for the academic purpose .Students are allowed to read and copy the e-journals and e-papers whenever they need.
National seminar on Malayalam short story
Oneday National seminar on Mlayalam short story was organized on 31st January 2007 at College seminar hall. Famous Malayalam writer Santhosh Echikkanam inaugurated the seminar. More than 50 teachers and researchers from various colleges attended the seminar. B.Murali, Prof.Valsalan Vathusseri(Pondichery University), v.Anoop, Pradeepan Pampirikkunnu (Sreesankaracharya university)presented papers in various sessions.
Poet Conference
A poet conference was held on 21th November 2007 Wednesday at College seminar hall. The renowned Malayalam poets, Pavithran Theekkuni,Sivadas Purameri, Gafoor Karuvannur and Sreedharan Vekkot Participated in the programme.They shared the experiences behind the creation and recited poems before the audience.It was a gripping one in its nature.
Folklore Fest
Under Special software Scheme 2008-2009 Prasarbharathi broadcasting Corparation of india conducted a Folklore Fest at the College campus as a joint venture with department of Malayalam.the program held on 29th September 2008.Kalam Paatu, the traditional art form of Kerala,was performed by P.K.Jisha and party.Dr.P.vasanthakumari gave an bright introduction about the Kalam pattu. Theyyam, Thira and thottam pattu, the cultural cavalcade of north Malabar, was performed by C.K.Kunhiraman and party.Dr.C.R.Karippath introduced the the mystery of arts behind Theyyam .
Literature Workshop and Poet conference
With the joint auspicious of All India Radio and Malayalam department a literature workshop was conducted at college auditorium on 15th September 2009.The college witnessed a line up of the writers standing in lime light. S.joseph ,K.C.narayanan, P.Geetha, N.Santhosh kumar, A.T.Mohan Raj, Desamangalam Ramakrishnan , Rosmeri, Ravunni, P.P.Ramachandran, P.N.Gopikrishnan, Alankot Leelakrishnan, V.M.Girija, K.V.Baby, Manoj Kuroor, Veeran kutty were included among the resource persons.It was a program praised by the media for its smooth manner in which it was conducted conducting and the insightful approach towards literature.
Meet the authors
Famous Malayalam writers Mullanezhi and S.Joseph attended the program ‘Meet the authors’ on 11th October 2010 at college seminar hall. They discussed in detail the present scenario of Malayalam literature with spcial reference to their individual writing.
Extension activities
Based on language and literature, members of the teaching faculty conducted as many as 50 public interactions and speeches at various secondary, higher secondary schools and colleges.
Future Plans
We are eagerly waiting for the sanction of B A Malayalam course from the government. The application is under consideration.
We have applied for sanction for an ad on course on Creative writing.
A collection of poems and short stories by students is proposed to be published in this academic year.
We plan to establish a manuscript library here with the assistance of local body governments.
We plan to conduct a literacy program at the coastal areas of near by villages.
